Port 3128 (TCP) is the conventional home of Squid proxy. It sits in the registered range (1024–49151), where applications claim their conventional numbers.
Port numbers identify the service behind an IP address — the difference between reaching a web server and a database on the same machine. Firewalls, connection strings and health checks all speak in these numbers.
