The Harmonized System of the World Customs Organization classifies every product in world trade. Its first two digits — the chapter — set the broad category: Chapter 09 is coffee and tea, Chapter 85 is electronics, Chapter 87 is vehicles. Full HS codes extend to six international digits plus national subdivisions.
